Sowing the First Seeds

Sowing the First Seeds

Spring is the season of beginnings in the garden, and this month I’ve started sowing the first seeds for Bee & Bloom.

The aim is to grow a mixture of flowers that support pollinators while also producing beautiful stems for natural bouquets later in the season.

This month I’ve sown seeds including sweet peas, cosmos, nigella, cornflowers, sunflowers, borage, marigolds and teasel.

At the moment the seedlings are still indoors while the weather remains cool. Some trays are sitting on windowsills where they can receive plenty of natural light, while others are in slightly cooler rooms where the temperature stays more stable.

Starting seeds indoors helps give them a strong start before they are gradually hardened off and moved outside once the risk of frost has passed.

Right now the seedlings are tiny, but in a few months these small plants will hopefully become flowers buzzing with bees and butterflies.
