One of the nicest parts about moving into a new garden is discovering what’s already there.
As I’ve only been here a little over a month, the Bee & Bloom garden is still revealing itself slowly as spring progresses. Rather than rushing to clear beds or redesign the space straight away, I’ve been taking time to see what begins to emerge naturally.
Over the past few weeks, the first signs of the garden waking up have started to appear.
Peonies have begun pushing through the soil, their fresh red shoots hinting at the beautiful flowers that will arrive later in the season. They’re one of those plants that feel like a gift from a previous gardener, something already established and waiting to bloom.
Spanish bluebells have also started to appear, adding soft colour in parts of the garden. While they can spread quite freely, they bring an early splash of spring colour and are already attracting pollinators.
Another small discovery has been clusters of delicate white star-shaped flowers appearing around the garden beds. These tiny blooms are one of the first signs that spring is properly underway and provide an early food source for insects.
Moments like this are part of what makes gardening so enjoyable, watching the garden slowly reveal itself and noticing plants that were already waiting beneath the soil.
For now, I’m enjoying learning what the garden already holds before gradually adding more flowers for Bee & Bloom. Over time, the aim is to build on what’s here and create a biodiverse space filled with plants that support wildlife while producing seasonal flowers for the garden.
Each week brings something new emerging from the ground, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else appears as the season continues.
